As myself am a squatter I'll give my vision about this itemfeeded by my 8 years of experience as an squatter. In this
scene there are various types of squatters. I have been more
one of the artistic, social kind of squatters that didn't fit in society. My main goal was to obtain the possibility to be creative. As the community doesn't make it easy to follow his creative path. It took some time and squatting to finally obtain the house I have now.
3 floors each 6 by 12 meter. I use one floor as an gallery and painting
studio, one for living, sleeping cooking and one as my crative workshop
for my glassfibre & polyester experiments, for welding & (dis)assembly
and for the paint jobs.
The owner is the Rabobank. I invited the Local manager. Showed him my work in an early stage of devellopment told him my ambition and this resulted in an granted free stay for now 7 years. I always payed my taxes and electricity bill.
My first attempts where les succesfull. A 3 hours squat in Rotterdam, Zaagmolenstraat, a 6 days squat in Schiedam, the local swimming pool, a 3 months squat in Rotterdam, Spaanse polder industrial aerea.
I find the media and goverment not realistic in their approach and vision about squatters.Instead of an problem it should be seen as een asset and a solution. It makes it possible that people can live in a way that provides other possibiltys of being and develloping one self. This makes it possible for the society to be enriched by colourfull people and prevents dulness in the complete society which would lead to a world of slavery of mind and body.
I feel like this because I see this division of people and cultures, as an burden that people instead of breaking it exgererate and lead to conflict. This is done by mainstream and subcultures and myself can reflect to be narrowminded just as easy. As we are al human and subjected to the same influences and complicated mind day in and out. I see this world without borders as created by origin and our lack of communicational and affectional skills as the spring for this strange conception of the world that has become mainstream.
Don't be restrained by borders is my moto also of those of an subculture .
and our struggle to survive
